While Playing: 
  • Sit with your child and take turns putting the pieces of the puzzle together.
  • Build one puzzle by putting together the border first, then put together another puzzle by saving the border for last. Discuss which method worked better.

Investigate mechanisms that include simple machines and enable movement.

At-Home Activities: 
  • After putting together the puzzles at Puzzle Park, go around your house and try to find other simple machines that use a pulley, an axle, and a gear. Look at more complex machines and try to decipher which simple machines are used in combination.
  • Go for a walk around your neighbourhood and look for pulleys, axles and gears. Make sure to jot down your findings in a journal!
