While Playing:
  • Your child will get the most from this game when you are an active participant as well.
  • Sit with your child while he/she plays, engaging them with the activity. Ask questions like, "what do you think Melvin took?" or "what's missing?"
  • Repeat the items as they come up on the screen. This will help to reinforce any new vocabulary.

Ontario Curriculum Connections:

Melvin's Gather and Guess introduces your early learner to every day vocabulary while helping them strengthen their memory skills!  This game meets many expectations from the Ontario Full Day Early Learning - Kindergarten Program, one of which is:

Language:

Communicate by talking and by listening and speaking to others for a variety of purposes and in a variety of contexts.

At-Home Activities:
  • "What's Missing" is a great game to play with your kids, inside or out!
  • Have your child gather a few items from around the house, make sure they are small enough to fit comfortably into a pillowcase.
  • Lay out 5 items, have your child study the items for a moment. Have your child hide his/her eyes while you take away an item and place it in the pillowcase. Your child has to guess which item you've taken away. Take turns placing items in the pillowcase.
  • Increase the fun factor, and add more items to the mix! Take two items away and hide both in the pillowcase!
